“Ulu Ka ‘Ōhi‘a a Lau Ka Wai”
ʻŌhiʻa spreads...water is profound!
Hula is the profound dance of environmental kinship. Our ancient chants say that when we HULA we are in communion with our nature-selves...we are in sacred exchange with the tree people, the people in the dirt, the volcano people, the cloud people, & the mountain people. Indeed, the very elements that we dance & chant about are also IN US!
You can expect:
* the cosmology of hula
* hula & related mythologies
* the study of the mele as a treasure chest of information
* hula art
You will learn:
* hula images in the land, ocean and sky
* hula ‘aiha’a as ritual hula
* hula and wahi pana
* basic Hawai‘i language
through mele hula
* how we relate to the hula process in our daily lives
And don't forget!
* the function of Laka, Pele, Hiʻiaka and related environmental deities and an examination of “who” these energies are in the natural environment
* hula vegetation & sea life as manifestations of hula images

"The existence of friends who connect through learning is great. Even if I can only meet online, I can feel the connection. I don't know what it is yet, but I feel relieved."
